COUPLES AND FAMILY THERAPY
Couples and family counseling requires a specialized set of skills in a systemic approach.
Couples and family counseling differs from individual therapy because two or more people from the same family attend each session. Clinically, the family or couple is the client and no individual is singled out. We help families get along by facilitating healthier communication, processing issues, identifying patterns in problematic behaviors, and much more.
Each family unit can be viewed as a mobile that hangs over an infant’s crib. When one piece of the mobile moves, all the other pieces move along with it. This is exactly what happens within families. We typically prefer to treat the whole family for this very reason.
Did you know? Couples and family therapy can also be used for coworkers and employees!
